Wireless Antennas

What are wireless antennas?

A wireless antenna is a converter that transforms a guided wave propagating on a transmission line into an electromagnetic wave propagating in an unbounded medium, usually free space, or vice versa. In radio equipment, antennas are used to transmit or receive electromagnetic waves and are key components of wireless communication systems.

What are the bands of wireless antennas?

Wireless Wifi antennas

Wireless Fidelity technology, based on the IEEE802.11 protocol, is a short-range wireless transmission technology capable of supporting radio signals for Internet access within a range of hundreds of feet.

WiFi usually operates at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, with transmission rates up to hundreds of megabits per second (Mbps). Wifi antennas are usually used in devices such as wireless routers, which are responsible for receiving and transmitting wireless signals to realise the device’s network connectivity function.

Wireless Bluetooth antenna

Bluetooth is a low-power, low-cost, short-range (generally within 10 metres) wireless communication technology.Bluetooth antennas are used to connect Bluetooth devices, such as Bluetooth headsets, Bluetooth speakers, etc., to achieve short-range data transmission and communication.

Its working frequency is 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 5.0 standard further improves the transmission distance and speed, but still keep in the category of short distance communication.

Wireless NFC antennas

NFC (Near Field Communication) is a non-contact radio frequency identification technology, the working frequency is 13.56 MHz, mainly used for near distance (0-5cm) communication.

The NFC antenna is actually a large inductor used to excite a 13.56MHz current, inducing a magnetic field that further induces a current when the smart device’s NFC antenna is in close proximity to enable communication.NFC antennas do not have a typical radiation direction map or antenna gain, and their performance is mainly improved by increasing surface area and impedance matching.

Wireless BLE antennas

The BLE band range is 2.4000 GHz – 2.4835 GHz, within this range, it is subdivided into 40 channels with a bandwidth of 2MHz, where channels 37, 38, and 39 are broadcast channels. The remaining 37 channels are data channels.

Wireless Zigbee antennas

Zigbee antenna The operating frequency band on 2.4 GHz is 2.4000GHz~2.4835GHz, and in this range is divided into 11-26 a total of 16 channels, and the bandwidth of each channel is 5MHz.

These wireless antennas play a key role in their respective communication technologies, ensuring wireless connectivity and data transmission capabilities of the devices.

What are the types of wireless antennas?

Wireless antennas main include internal antennas and external antennas.

Internal wireless antennas include spring helical antennas, ceramic chip antennas, PCB antennas, flexible PCB antennas, microstrip antennas, metal sheet antennas, slot antennas, etc.

External wireless antennas include rubber duck antennas, magnetic mount antennas, adhesive patch antennas, yagi antennas, sector antennas, fiberglass antennas, parabolic grid antennas, panel antennas, and so on.

Wireless antenna applications

Wireless antennas are widely used in various radio communication systems, such as mobile communication, broadcasting and television, radar navigation, satellite communication and so on. With the continuous development of the Internet of Things technology, wireless antennas are more and more widely used in the fields of smart home, smart city, industrial automation and so on.
