Antenna Types
What are the antenna types?
There are various types of antennas based on different classification criteria, here are some of the major types of antennas and their characteristics.
Dipole Antennas
This is the simplest type of antenna, consisting of two conducting elements of equal length, and is commonly used for AM/FM radio, television broadcasting, and basic wireless communication systems.
Monopole Antennas
Monopole antenna has a single conductor, usually oriented vertically, commonly used in mobile devices, base stations, and whip antennas to provide a directional map of omnidirectional radiation.
External antennas
External antennas are mounted outside the device. Mainly includes patch antennas, parabolic dish antennas, horn antennas, yagi antennas, reflector antennas, etc.
Internal antennas
Internal antennas are installed inside the device.
Built-in antennas mainly include FPC antennas, PCB antennas, spring antennas, ceramic patch antennas, dielectric antennas, slot antennas, helical antennas, laser direct molding (LDS) antennas, and hardware sheet antennas.
Omni-directional antennas
Omni-directional antennas are characterized by uniform radiation over 360° in the horizontal direction, such as suction cup antennas, fiberglass antennas, and rubber duck antennas.
Directional antennas
In a particular direction or a few specific directions to transmit and receive electromagnetic waves is particularly strong, such as flat panel antennas, yagi antennas, and logarithmic cycle antennas.
Classified by other characteristics
According to the frequency band
Single-band antennas, dual-band antennas, multi-band antennas, triple-band antennas, quad-band antennas, ultra-wideband antennas, and broadband antennas.
According to the radiation direction
Omnidirectional antennas, directional antennas.
According to the polarization mode
Horizontal (single) polarized antennas, vertical (single) polarized antennas, and dual-polarized antennas.
According to the tilt mode
Electrically adjustable antennas, mechanical antennas.
According to the appearance
Board antennas, ceiling antennas, yagi antennas, etc.
There are various types of antennas, and each type has its unique characteristics and applicable scenes. When choosing an antenna, you need to choose the right type of antenna according to the specific application needs.
