RF Adapters
What are RF adapters?
A radio frequency (RF) coaxial adapter is simply an RF coaxial connector with a common internal transmission line and a specific coaxial connector type or male and female.
For example, some RF adapters are simply coaxial connectors that are male-to-male or female-to-female adapters, which allow a male coaxial connector to be interconnected to another male coaxial connector or a female coaxial connector to another female coaxial connector, respectively.
For example, coaxial male and female connectors are used at the ports of a device to allow for connect/disconnect cycling at the adapter rather than the port connector, thereby increasing the life of the port connector.
In the RF industry, it is common to find coaxial connector components and coaxial cable assemblies with a variety of different male and female or coaxial connector types.
RF adapters help to interconnect these different coaxial connector packages and/or coaxial cable assemblies without the need to modify the packages or cable assemblies so that they all have compatible coaxial interconnections.
RF coaxial connectors, cables, adapters, and cable assemblies are available in application-specific forms, such as general purpose, precision, high reliability (Hi-REL), high temperature, hermetically sealed, vector network analyzer (VNA), low passive intermodulation (PIM), etc., so RF adapters can be designed according to the characteristics and performance of these.
