GSM Antennas
What are GSM antennas?
The GSM antenna is one of the core components in wireless communication networks and is widely used in digital cell phone systems in Europe and elsewhere internationally.
A GSM antenna is an antenna used for mobile communications and is a key component of the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), which is one of the most widely used of the three current digital radiotelephone technologies.
The GSM system is currently the most widely used of the three digital wireless telephone technologies. The main function of the GSM antenna is to realize the wireless signal transmission between the base station and the mobile user equipment to ensure smooth communication.
GSM antenna working principle
The working principle of a GSM antenna is based on the radiation and reception of electromagnetic waves.
When high-frequency signals are generated by the base station equipment, these signals are converted into electromagnetic waves and sent out through the antenna to cover a wider area for wireless communication.
At the same time, when the surrounding mobile stations send out signals, these electromagnetic waves are received by the base station antenna and converted into electrical signals, which are then further processed by the base station equipment for communication.
GSM antenna technical characteristics
Polarization
GSM antennas include single-polarized and dual-polarized.
Operating frequency
The working frequency of the GSM antenna mainly includes several frequency bands such as GSM900 (900MHz), GSM1800 (1800MHz), and GSM1900 (1900MHz).
Signal transmission
The GSM antenna can digitize the material and crunch the data, which is then sent out from the channel together with two other user data streams. Each user data stream has its time slot, which is an application of time division multiple access technology.
Gain and Beamwidth
The gain of an antenna indicates its signal strength, while the beamwidth describes the directionality of the antenna’s radiation. The selection of these parameters directly affects the performance of the antenna.
GSM antenna types and applications
There are various types of GSM base station antennas, including directional antennas, omnidirectional antennas, and sector antennas. These antennas are designed to meet different communication needs, such as improving signal coverage, enhancing signal strength, or realizing communication in a specific direction.
Directional GSM antenna
Radiate signals are mainly in a specific direction with clear directionality. This type of antenna is suitable for wide coverage, such as suburban or rural areas.
Omni-directional GSM antenna
An antenna that radiates signals uniformly in all directions. This type of antenna is often used in small indoor or low population-density areas of the base station coverage and can realize the full range of service coverage. Its structure is simple and the cost is relatively low.
